Issues Automator for Jira: Streamline Epic Creation, User Story Breakdown, Refinement, and Test Case Generation

Overview

Issues Automator for Jira helps you generate Epics, break them down into user stories, refine user stories with the correct format and acceptance criteria, and generate test cases with automation script outlines.

Note: User stories will not be generated from an Epic if you have configured required fields for user stories, except for (Summary and Description). We are working on accommodating this requirement. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please refer to the following links for more details.

Installation, Configuration, and Use Cases:

Once installed through the Atlassian guide, no additional configuration is required. However, to generate test cases as issues, ensure a project is associated with the "Test Case" issue type.

Configuring the “Test Case” Issue Type

Company-Managed Projects

  • Create the "Test Case" issue type from Setup -> Issue -> Issue Type.
  • Ensure "Test Case" is added to the Issue Type Schema associated with your project.

Team-Managed Projects

  • For Team Managed Projects, create the "Test Case" issue type by navigating to Project Setup -> Issue Type.

Use Cases

1. Backlog Refinement Session Preparation
Preparing user stories for backlog refinement sessions can be challenging. With Issues Automator for Jira, you can easily generate user stories from Epics/Features, ensuring they are properly structured with acceptance criteria directly included.

2. PI Planning Session Support
During PI planning, creating user stories from selected features can be time-consuming. Issues Automator for Jira accelerates this process, allowing the team to focus on PI planning rather than manual story creation.

3. Functional Testing Preparation
In addition to user story creation, Issues Automator for Jira generates test cases, helping testers validate test scenarios with developers before testing begins. It also generates outlines for Test Automation Scripts, ensuring smoother testing workflows.
